Peer-to-Peer fundraising campaigns are a great way for your nonprofit to increase it's reach to new supporters, and get donations with not a lot of effort on your side. Learn how to leverage this great tool for your NGO.
Peer-to-Peer or Peer-2-Peer (P2P) fundraising is the practice of supporters fundraising on behalf of your organization by appealing to their own personal networks.
In other words, a peer-to-peer fundraising campaign is created, when one of your supporters chooses to help your nonprofit to raise money, by promoting and advocating your cause to their friends, family and social connections. Peer-to-Peer campaigns are a great way for a nonprofit to reach a larger audience that it would otherwise have no access to.
How does a peer-to-peer campaign look like?
When a peer-to-peer campaign is created in GivingWay, it uses the basic structure of the organizations existing fundraising campaign, but adds on top of it the fundraiser's (the person raising the funds for your NGO) picture and personal message. The fundraiser can choose to edit the name of the campaign, and the explanation to why they are fundraising. They cannot change anything in the campaign's description.
Below the campaign description appear the organization's images and the donations made to this fundraiser.
Types of peer-to-peer campaigns
While all peer-to-peer have a similar structure, a fundraiser can create different pleas when asking people to donate. The options are endless, but here are some examples of the more common peer-to-peer campaign types:
1. Standard -
This is the basic campaign, where fundraisers may ask their connections to support a cause they care about and explain why it's close to their heart.
2. Birthday -
The fundraiser requests their friends and family, that this year instead of getting them a birthday present, to make a donation to the nonprofit of their choice.
3. Wedding -
In this type of fundraiser, the happy couple chooses a cause they support and ask people to donate as a wedding present.
4. Memorial -
A fundraiser in memory of someone who passed away to a cause they cared deeply about or were effected by.
5. Holidays & Special Occasions -
Fundraisers can create campaigns for endless occasion, Christmas, graduation, birth of a new baby just to name a few.
How to create a peer-to-peer campaign
Creating a peer-to-peer campaign is easy and fast.

How can I get my supporters to create a peer-to-peer campaign?
The best way to get your supporters to create a peer-to-peer campaign on your behalf is - to ask them!
Approach your existing community whenever you create a new fundraising campaign and ask them if they would be willing to help you out by creating a fundraiser and sharing it within their social networks. Approach new supporters when they make their first contribution. Thank them for their generous donation, and ask them if they would be willing to help you further by creating a fundraising campaign and sharing it with their friends and family.
