Did you know that you can use Instagram for fundraising online? Instagram allows nonprofits and their supporters to raise money directly on Instagram in multiple ways - a Profile donate button, Donation Sticker in Stories, and Live Donations. Instagram is an effective tool to share your vision, mission, impact, appeal for donations, call for volunteers, keep in touch with donors and raise awareness. Instagram also offers special fundraising tools for nonprofits, but to enjoy them you first have to become an eligible nonprofit.

How can I let Instagram know I'm a NGO?

For a nonprofit to be eligible to use Instagram's fundraising tools and to receive donations through the platform you must complete the following 3 steps.


1. Sign Up for Charitable Giving Tools. Note that it may take up to a few weeks for you to be approved as a non profit.

2. Link your Instagram and Facebook Accounts

3. Switch your Instagram to a Business Account


Note that your nonprofit must be based in one of the following countries to enjoy these features: Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom, and United States.


What kind of fundraising features does Instagram offer?


Use Instagram's 4 fundraising tools for nonprofits to create content that can lead to donations.


Instagram Live Donations


Raise money on Instagram Live by creating a fundraiser that adds a donate button to the Live video.


Once you begin your Live donation broadcast, you can see how many people are supporting your fundraiser and the amount of money raised in real-time. Tap View to see a breakdown of your donors and individual contributions. You can even thank them in real-time by tapping Wave.


To start a Live video fundraiser from the Instagram app


  1. Tap in the top left of Feed or swipe right from anywhere in Feed.

  2. Scroll to Live at the bottom of the screen.

  3. Tap Fundraiser on the left.

  4. Select the nonprofit you want to start a fundraiser for by scrolling down or typing their name into the search bar at the top.

  5. Tap to start your Live video fundraiser.

Instagram Stories Donation Sticker


Give your supporters a peak into your every day using a combination of videos, photos, and creative tools. Use the donation sticker in Stories to create a fundraiser, encouraging your supporters to donate to your cause directly on Instagram.


To use the donation sticker:


  1. In Instagram, open the camera and take or upload a photo that best highlights your cause.

  2. Tap the sticker icon.

  3. Select the donation sticker from the tray.

  4. Select a nonprofit organization.

  5. Customize your fundraiser using Stories’ creative tools.

  6. Tap Send to. Then tap Share next to Your Story.

You can add multiple images or videos to build your fundraising story.




Instagram Business Account Donate Button

The donate button on Instagram allows nonprofits to raise money directly from your Instagram Business Account.

To add a donate button to your nonprofit’s Instagram business account:

  1. Go to your profile and tap.

  2. Tap Settings.

  3. Tap Business > Donations.

  4. Tap next to Add Donate Button to Profile.

If you’re unable to find Donations, please update your Instagram app to the latest version.

Instagram Feed Fundraisers

Feed Fundraisers are a long-lasting way for supporters to give to your nonprofit causes. Feed Fundraisers can be shared to a Story, attached to more Feed Posts, added to Live broadcasts and attached to video, carousel and image Feed Posts.

Share these Feed Fundraiser creation steps with your supporters:

  1. Update your Instagram app to the latest version.

  2. On your profile, tap the create icon (“+”) in the top right.

  3. Select Post, choose an image and tap.

  4. Under your image, tap Add Fundraiser.

  5. Choose your nonprofit.

  6. Add details in the Fundraiser Details page, tap Add, then tap Share.
